w b 叶芝后期诗歌中的神话原型 一一个人与历史的循环 专业：英语语言文学 研究方向：英美文学研究 摘要 导师：刘治良教授 研究生：彭妍秋 w b 叶芝( 1 8 6 5 - - 1 9 3 9 ) ，英国2 0 世纪诗坛的领军人物，同时也为2 0 世纪上 半叶爱尔兰文学复兴作出了巨大的贡献，并于1 9 2 3 年荣获诺贝尔文学奖。在叶 芝在诸如象征主义、浪漫主义、现实主义和现代主义等多个领域取得了瞩目的成 就迄今为止，国内外学者在“叶芝研究 方面取得了长足的发展。但国内外众 多有关叶芝的研究多是关注其诗歌的浪漫性与神秘性。本文旨在以对叶芝后期诗 歌细读的基础上，结合神话原型批评理论，通过分析“踌躇斗( 1 9 3 3 ) 、“丽达与 天鹅力( 1 9 2 8 ) 、“基督重临刀( 1 9 2 1 ) 和。驶向拜占庭一( 1 9 2 8 ) 等诗歌中频繁出 现的树、乌、水、火等原型意象来揭示叶芝幻象( 1 9 3 7 ) 中的循环观：个体 生命以各种化身循环再生，同时，历史亦是螺旋循环发展 本文主要由五章组成 第一章为论文的引言部份，简要介绍国内外对叶芝及其诗歌的研究状况；同时 提出本文设想、主题、研究方法及研究目的。 第二章、第三章及第四章为论文的主体部分。从叶芝后期诗歌中树意象，动物 意象及水意象来揭示叶芝幻象中的循环观。 第二章结合叶芝自身经历，通过分析诗歌“她在林中幻想”及搿踌躇 中树意 象来揭示诗中蕴涵的死亡一再生母题。詹姆斯弗雷泽在 ：金枝( 1 9 9 8 ) 中考 察了原始祭祀仪式，发现许多民族的原始信仰和行为模式显示出一些相似性，因 为他们有着相同的起源，即原型。“金枝 的故事源于原始宗教中对生命力的崇 拜这些宗教的核心人物都是以一位青年男子形象出现的神，如阿都尼斯、阿提 斯等。他们是自然植物的化身，他们的死亡是复活的前奏。叶芝称自己是最后的 v i 浪漫主义者，一生都在追求美、永恒和贵族传统，他在自传中慨叹生命与艺术间 的矛盾，慨叹年轻时形体美好而心智幼稚。年老时则心智成熟而形体衰朽。叶芝 希望自己能像神话中死亡与再生的神祗一样永葆青春与活力随着年龄的增长， 他很快便意识到，仅仅是肉体的重生，只能满足尘世的欲望，并不能从根本上解 决世俗肉体与不朽精神之间的矛盾。 第三章结合叶芝的“螺旋刀理论，通过分析诗中频繁出现的鸟意象来具体阐释 叶芝寻求的人类及历史发展出路 通过分析两首以拜占庭为主题的诗来揭示叶芝渴望在永恒的艺术中得到精神 的永生，哪怕是要面对肉体的死亡在“驶向拜占庭 与“拜占庭疗两首诗中， 。金鸟斗这一意象至关重要。与尘世中歌唱“感官的音乐”的鸟儿相比，叶芝更希 望变做一只搿金鸟一去歌唱灿烂不朽的艺术。叶芝认为。人类再不能沉溺与世俗 的欢乐只有在艺术中才能摆脱尘世肉体的循环获得精神的永生 “基督重临舛发表予1 9 2 1 年一战后，战争的动乱让叶芝目睹了人类灵魂丑恶 的一面，传统的宗教再也不能规范人的行为。叶芝认为，战争使爱尔兰乃至整个 欧洲文明处于一种无序状态，整个资本主义世界即将没落，必须产生一种新的崇 尚精神的文明一种古典的贵族统治才可以拯救世界叶芝在幻象中具体解 释了诗中的“螺旋 意象他认为，历史是螺旋循环发展，周期为两千年，其 根本动力是情欲和战争，每一个螺旋开始的标志都是一只鸟和一个女人。第一个 循环从公元前一千年到公元一年，希腊神话中丽达与天鹅的故事占主导地位，而 第二个循环开始于基督的出生( 圣母与鸽子) ，伴随着特洛伊的沦陷，希腊罗马 文明结束，进入下一个时代。在搿基督重临一中，叶芝向传统的教义提出质疑： 耶稣是否真的会重临入间? 耶稣的重幅是否真的能拯救世界? 叶芝认为西方文 明已接近毁灭的时期，即将出现的是一种反文明，反基督，作为走向另一种贵族 文明的过渡。 第四章通过分析叶芝后期诗歌中的水意象( 包括其他与水相关的意象，如火， 石，血) 来阐释叶芝追求个体重生，精神永生及贵族统治的原因。 叶芝1 9 2 3 年获诺贝尔文学奖，获奖理由是，“以其高度艺术化且洋溢着灵感 的诗作表达了整个民族的灵魂一( 诺贝尔奖在线) 。有着贵族血统的叶芝在诗歌 中追求的是贵族传统的美德和礼仪，努力把种种矛盾融为一体，力图超越混乱的 v i i 现实世界，求得一个永恒稳定的精神秩序 水与火的对立统一，象征着破坏与创造、死亡与再生、纯洁与欲望，同时，也 是叶芝螺旋中的基本对立体在拜占庭组诗中，叶芝描述了一个由水的世界驶向 火的世界的精神之旅，在水与火共同的洗涤和净化后获得永生。叶芝一生都热衷 于炼金术，希望从石头中提炼出真理一“智慧之石一无论时光变迁，孕育着生 命与灵魂的石头始终超脱轮回，闪烁着智慧之光。 第五章是本文的结论部分，简要总结各个章节，并指出研究中的局限和不足， 以及就相关研究提出问题。 叶芝认为， 幻象：是一部非常深奥的神秘哲学，书中阐释的是一些奇异的天 启感。本文通过分析叶芝后期诗歌中树意象，动物意象及水意象，得出结论。i ：幻 象及其中阐述的循环观( 个人及历史的循环) 是叶芝在神秘仪式中获得的“集 体无意识一的集合，即原型的集合。 关键词：w b 叶芝；原型意象；螺旋理论；个体循环；历史循环 v i i i a na n a l y s i so fa r c h e t y p e si nw b y e a t s l a t e p o e m s -
