Pleasenotethatthismanualappliestoallmodelsandallequipment,includ-ingoptions.Therefore,youmayfindsomeexplanationsforequipmentnotinstalledonyourvehicle.

Allspecificationsprovidedinthismanualarecurrentatthetimeofprinting.However,becauseoftheScionpolicyofcontinualproductimprovement,wereservetherighttomakechangesatanytimewithoutnotice.

Dependingonspecifications,thevehicleshownintheillustrationsmaydifferfromyourvehicleintermsofequipment.

Noisefromundervehicleafterturningofftheengine

Approximatelyfivehoursaftertheengineisturnedoff,youmayhearsoundcomingfromunderthevehicleforseveralminutes.Thisisthesoundofafuelevaporationleakagecheckand,itdoesnotindicateamalfunction.

Accessories,sparepartsandmodificationofyourScion

Awidevarietyofnon-genuinesparepartsandaccessoriesforScionvehiclesarecurrentlyavailableinthemarket.YoushouldknowthatToyotadoesnotwarranttheseproductsandisnotresponsiblefortheirperformance,repair,orreplacement,orforanydamagetheymaycauseto,oradverseeffecttheymayhaveon,yourScionvehicle.

Thisvehicleshouldnotbemodifiedwithnon-genuineScionproducts.Modificationwithnon-genuineScionproductscouldaffectitsperformance,safetyordurability,andmayevenviolategovernmentalregulations.Inaddition,damageorperformanceproblemsresultingfromthemodificationmaynotbecoveredunderwarranty.

Theinstallationofamobiletwo-wayradiosysteminyourvehiclecouldaffectelectronicsystemssuchas:

●Multiportfuelinjectionsystem/sequentialmultiportfuelinjectionsystem

●SRSairbagsystem

●Seatbeltpretensionersystem

BesuretocheckwithyourSciondealerforprecautionarymeasuresorspe-cialinstructionsregardinginstallationofamobiletwo-wayradiosystem.

Vehicledatarecordings

YourScionisequippedwithseveralsophisticatedcomputersthatwillrecordcertaindata,suchas:

•Enginespeed

•Acceleratorstatus

•Brakestatus

•Vehiclespeed

•Shiftposition

Therecordeddatavariesaccordingtothevehiclegradelevelandoptionswithwhichitisequipped.Furthermore,thesecomputersdonotrecordcon-versations,soundsorpictures.

●Datausage

Scionmayusethedatarecordedinthesecomputerstodiagnosemalfunc-tions,conductresearchanddevelopment,andimprovequality.

Scionwillnotdisclosetherecordeddatatoathirdpartyexcept:

•Withtheconsentofthevehicleownerorwiththeconsentofthelesseeifthevehicleisleased

•Inresponsetoanofficialrequestbythepolice,acourtoflaworagovern-mentagency

•Forresearchpurposeswherethedataisnottiedtoaspecificvehicleorvehicleowner

Eventdatarecorder

Thisvehicleisequippedwithaneventdatarecorder(EDR).Themainpur-poseofanEDRistorecord,incertaincrashornearcrash-likesituations,suchasanairbagdeploymentorhittingaroadobstacle,datathatwillassistinunderstandinghowavehicle’ssystemsperformed.TheEDRisdesignedtorecorddatarelatedtovehicledynamicsandsafetysystemsforashortperiodoftime,typically30secondsorless.

TheEDRinthisvehicleisdesignedtorecordsuchdataas:

•Howvarioussystemsinyourvehiclewereoperating;

•Whetherornotthedriverandpassengersafetybeltswerebuckled/fas-tened;

•Howfar(ifatall)thedriverwasdepressingtheacceleratorand/orbrakepedal;and,

•Howfastthevehiclewastraveling.

Thesedatacanhelpprovideabetterunderstandingofthecircumstancesinwhichcrashesandinjuriesoccur.

NOTE:EDRdataarerecordedbyyourvehicleonlyifanontrivialcrashsitua-tionoccurs;nodataarerecordedbytheEDRundernormaldrivingcondi-tionsandnopersonaldata(e.g.,name,gender,age,andcrashlocation)arerecorded.However,otherparties,suchaslawenforcement,couldcombinetheEDRdatawiththetypeofpersonallyidentifyingdataroutinelyacquiredduringacrashinvestigation.

ToreaddatarecordedbyanEDR,specialequipmentisrequired,andaccesstothevehicleortheEDRisneeded.Inadditiontothevehiclemanufacturer,otherparties,suchaslawenforcement,thathavethespecialequipment,canreadtheinformationiftheyhaveaccesstothevehicleortheEDR.

●DisclosureoftheEDRdata

ScionwillnotdisclosethedatarecordedinanEDRtoathirdpartyexceptwhen:

•Anagreementfromthevehicle’sowner(orthelesseeforaleasedvehicle)isobtained

•Inresponsetoanofficialrequestbythepolice,acourtoflaworagovern-mentagency

•ForusebyScioninalawsuitHowever,ifnecessary,Scionmay:

•Usethedataforresearchonvehiclesafetyperformance

•Disclosethedatatoathirdpartyforresearchpurposeswithoutdisclosinginformationaboutthespecificvehicleorvehicleowner

ScrappingofyourScion

TheSRSairbagandseatbeltpretensionerdevicesinyourScioncontainexplosivechemicals.Ifthevehicleisscrappedwiththeairbagsandseatbeltpretensionersleftastheyare,thismaycauseanaccidentsuchasfire.BesuretohavethesystemsoftheSRSairbagandseatbeltpretensionerremovedanddisposedofbyaqualifiedserviceshoporbyyourSciondealerbeforeyouscrapyourvehicle.

PerchlorateMaterial

Specialhandlingmayapply,

See/hazardouswaste/perchlorate.

Yourvehiclehascomponentsthatmaycontainperchlorate.Thesecompo-nentsmayincludeairbag,seatbeltpretensioners,andwirelessremotecon-trolbatteries.

Drivingundertheinfluence:Neverdriveyourvehiclewhenundertheinflu-enceofalcoholordrugsthathaveimpairedyourabilitytooperateyourvehi-cle.Alcoholandcertaindrugsdelayreactiontime,impairjudgmentandreducecoordination,whichcouldleadtoanaccidentthatcouldresultindeathorseriousinjury.

Defensivedriving:Alwaysdrivedefensively.Anticipatemistakesthatotherdriversorpedestriansmightmakeandbereadytoavoidaccidents.

Driverdistraction:Alwaysgiveyourfullattentiontodriving.Anythingthatdis-tractsthedriver,suchasadjustingcontrols,talkingonacellularphoneorreadingcanresultinacollisionwithresultingdeathorseriousinjurytoyou,youroccupantsorothers.

Neverleavechildrenunattendedinthevehicle,andneverallowchildrentohaveorusethekey.

Childrenmaybeabletostartthevehicleorshiftthevehicleintoneutral.Thereisalsoadangerthatchildrenmayinjurethemselvesbyplayingwiththecigarettelighter,thewindows,orotherfeaturesofthevehicle.Inaddi-tion,heatbuild-uporextremelycoldtemperaturesinsidethevehiclecanbefataltochildren.
