1、Rebecca HeinCase Study #8Ethical Behavior of Business Students at Bayview UniversityDuring the global recession of 2008 and 2009, there were many accusations of unethical behavior by Wall Street executives, financial managers, and other corporate officers. At that time, an article appeared that sugg

2、ested that part of the reason for such unethical business behavior may stem from the fact that cheating has become more prevalent among business students. The article reported that 56% of business students admitted to cheating at some time during their academic career as compared to 47% of nonbusine

3、ss students.Cheating has been a concern of the dean of the college of Business at Bayview University for several years. Some faculty members in the college believe cheating is more widespread at Bayview than at other universities, while other faculty members think that cheating is not a major proble

4、m in the college. To resolve some ofthese issues, the dean commissioned a study to assess the current ethical behavior of business students at Bayview. As part of this study, an anonymous exit survey was administered to a sample of 90 business students form this years graduating class. Responses to

5、the following questions were used to obtain data regarding three types of cheating.During your time at Bayview, did you ever present work copied off the Internet as your own?Yes_ No_During your time at Bayview, did you ever copy answers off another students exam?Yes_No_During your time at Bayview, d

15、re were 90 students in this study and we see that there were more males than females, 6 more males. When the students were asked if they used the Internet to cheat we see that about 18% of them did. For this 18% of students who responded yes to using the internet to cheat, 44% were males and 56% of

16、them were females. About 21% of the females claimed to have cheated that way whereas about 14.5% of males did. So here we see that more females used the Internet to cheat than males.When asked if the student copied on an exam 20% said yes. Out of the students who responded yes to copying on an exam,

17、 50% were males and 50% of them were females. About 21% of females answered yes to this and about 19% of males also responded with yes. So here we see that it was pretty similar for the males and females that have copied on an exam.When asked if the student collaborated on an individual project abou

18、t 47% of students responded yes. Out of the students who responded yes to collaborating on an individual project, about 38% were female and 62% were males. About 26% of the females responded yes and about 38% of males did. So here we see that males are more likely to collaborate with another student

19、 on an individual project.2.
