But many supporters have overlooked the reality that this new business model is largely based on escaping regulations and breaking the law.Airbnb is an Internet-based service that allows people to rent out spare rooms to strangers for short stays. Uber is an Internet taxi service that allows thousands of people to answer ride requests with their own cars. There are hundreds of other such services. The good thing about the sharing economy is that it promotes the use of underused resources. Millions of people have houses or apartments with empty rooms, and Airbnb allows them to profit from these rooms while allowing guests a place to stay at prices that are often far less than those charged by hotels. Uber offers prices that are competitive with standard taxi prices and their drivers are often much quicker and more trustworthy. But the downside of the sharing economy has gotten much less attention. Most cities and states both tax and regulate hotels, and the tourists who stay in hotels are usually an important source of tax income. But many of Airbnbs customers are not paying the taxes required under the law.Airbnb can also raise issues of safety for its customers and trouble for hosts neighbors. Hotels are regularly inspected to ensure that they are not fire traps and that they dont form other risks for visitors. Airbnb hosts face no such inspections.Since Airbnb is allowing people to escape taxes and regulations, the company is simply promoting thefts. Others in the economy will lose by bearing an additional tax burden or being forced to live next to an apartment unit with a never-ending series of noisy visitors. The same story may apply to Uber. Uber is currently in disputes over whether its cars meet the safety and insurance requirements imposed on standard taxis. Also, if Uber and related services flood the market, they could harm all taxi drivers ability to earn a minimum wage. This downside of the sharing needs to be taken seriously, but that doesnt mean the current tax and regulatory structure is perfect.24What is the positive thing about the sharing economy?A. It is a global trend.B. It is beyond regulations.C. It draws on spare resources.D. It brings in modest profits.25What is the problem with Airbnb customers according to the passage?A. They are not regularly inspected.B. They can be noisy to hosts neighbours.C. They are allowed not to pay taxes.D. They are likely to commit thefts.26What is the argument over Uber according to the passage?A. Whether it guarantees customers safety.B. Whether it provides reliable services.C. Whether it lowers customers expenses.D. Whether it can compete with standard taxis.27What will be talked about in the following paragraphs?A. Existing regulations and laws.B. Further development of Airbnb and Uber.C. Necessary improvements of current laws.D. More downsides of Airbnb and Uber.CHave you ever been given something you dont like or doesnt fit, but you dont want to hurt the feelings of the person who thinks about you? Youre not alone. Everyone has received an unwanted gift at least once in his or her life. That doesnt mean the item is bad or useless. It simply means that it doesnt work for you.If you find yourself with something nice but that doesnt fit into your lifestyle, consider regifting it. Before you do that, make sure you understand the manners of this practice that is more and more common as people find it difficult to make ends meet to a great extent. There are specific things you should do to an item. Failure to do any of them may create an awkward situation. You never have to lie about what you are doing, but you dont want to be in the position of having to explain anything. For example, remove the original wrapping paper and rewrap it in your own; make sure the box is in good condition so the item doesnt appear used; check the item and make sure there are no cards or names on the packaging; inspect the item and make sure it is in excellent condition. When you get ready for regifting, consider having a white elephant gift exchange for your next celebration. This removes all the embarrassment of being caught regifting because thats the whole purpose of the event. In order to prevent hurting feelings, provide everyone with a guest list and ask them not to bring anything given by the people on that list.28. Why does the author begin the passage with a question?A. To share a hot phenomenon.B. To introduce the following part.C. To ask for readers answers.D. To point out a common opinion.29. What most contributes to the growing regifting?A. Peoples lack of money. B. Peoples dislike of the gifts. C. Peoples reduced desire for gifts. D. Peoples understanding of its manners.30. Whats mainly talked about in Paragraph 3?A. What to do before regifting.B. How to make use of unwanted gifts. C. What kind of gifts to be regifted.D. Why regifting can cause embarrassment.31. Nice but unsuitable.DWhen you are wet all over in an unexpected heavy rain next time, look on the bright side-it will be a memorable experience. While wet weather may make us feel gloomy, it sharpens the memory and improves our recall. But those who fell in a good mood because its a sunny day are able to remember less well, according to memory tests carried by Australian researchers.Professor Joe Forgas, who led the research, said: “It seems strange but a little bit of sadness is a good thing. People performed much better on our memory test when the weather was unpleasant and they were in a slightly negative mood. On bright sunny days, when they were more likely to be happy, they flunked it.”The tests were carried out on shoppers at a store in Sydney, where researchers randomly placed ten small objects on the check-out counter. On rainy days, sad music was played in the store. When it was bright and sunny, customers heard cheery music. This was done to further influence them towards negative or positive moods. After shopping, customers were asked how many of the objects they could remember. Their scores were three times higher when the weather was bad and they were feeling angry, compared with those tested on sunny days. The results were published in Journal of Experimental Psychology. A report on the findings said: “They point to a growing body of evidence that the way people think, the quality of their judgments and the accuracy of their memory are all significantly influenced by positive and negative moods.”Professor Forgas said, “We found that weather-inducted negative mood improved memory accuracy. Shoppers in a negative mood showed better memory and higher discrimination ability.”A worse mood helped to focus peoples attention on their surroundings and led to a more thorough and careful thinking style, while happiness increased confidence and forgetfulness.Being happy tends to promote a thinking style that is less focused on our surroundings. In a positive mood we are less likely to make more snap (匆忙的) judgments about people we meet. Mild negative mood, in turn, tends to increase attention to our surroundings and produce a more careful, thorough thinking style.Accurately remembering everyday scenes is a difficult task, yet such memories can be of importance in everyday life. Surprisingly, the influence of mood states on the accuracy of real-life memories is still poorly understood.32. The underlined word “flunked” in Paragraph 2 may mean “”.A. failedB. passedC. conductedD. understood33. In the research, researchers play different music to.A.promote customers to buy more goodsB. get customers to make a quick choiceC. help customers to choose what they wantD. make customers become sadder or happier34. According to Joe Forgas, on sunny days, people .A. will have a better recallB. will have more confidenceC. will make careful judgments on othersD. tend to pay more attention to their surroundings35. What can we know from the research?A. Forgetfulness is rather troublesome.B. Its important to feel in a good mood.C. Its memorable to experience a rainy day.D.
