CONFUSED,DEAR CONFUSED: Your reaction to dinner invitations is quite natural, and I have received many letters on this topic from other visitors. Therefore,I have made a list of some of the specific rules to follow: If the dinner is informal, ask if you can bring something, such as something to drink or dessert. Arrive five to ten minutes late, but never early.Your host or hostess may still be getting ready.,Take off your hat and coat as soon as you enter someones home. Feel free to politely refuse food that you dont want. You can say,”No,thanks.I dont care for any.” Put your napkin on your lap before you begin to eat. If there are a number of utensils, those farthest from the plate are supposed to be used first. The last utensils to be used will be on the inside. If youd like a second helping of something, you should go ahead and accept the first time it is offered.Your host or hostess may not offer it again. Remember to thank your host or hostess when you leave. You should also telephone the next day to say thank you again. These are some of the basic guidelines ,and,of course, they may vary with the situation. When in doubt,it is best to look at what the other people at the table are doing.,New words&Expressions: Step3,1.New words: canyon 甜食 utensil 器具,餐具 host 男主人 hostess 女主人 inappropriate 不合适,Reaction 反应 specific 具体的,特别的 informal 非正式的 guideline 纲领 vary 改变,2.Expressions:,Feel free to politely refuse food thatfeel free to do something 表示不受拘束或允许某人做某事。 例如:Is it OK if I take this one?
