ChapterOneIntroductionInthedevelopinghistoryofhumansociety,theconceptofrightshasamorethan200yearshistory,buttheconceptofhumanrightsdoesn’tincludewomen’shumanrights.Forexample,theDeclarationofHumanandCivilRightsofFrancein1789andtheDeclarationofIndependenceoftheUnitedStates.“Rightsofman”onlymeanstherightsofmen.TheWorldWomen’sLiberationMovementhaspushedwomen’srighttobehavefromtheedgeintothemainstream,thatmakingwomen’srightsimportantforthewholehumanrights.Inmorethan200yearssincethebeginningoftheworldwomen’sliberationmovement,wecanclearlyfeelthatthestatusofwomenhasimprovedinvariousperiodsofsociety,butitisundeniablethatuntilthemodernsociety,“menandwomen”haveneverachievedcompleteequalityintherealsense.Toachievecomplete“feminism”requiresmoreeffortsandcontributionsfrommenandwomenallovertheworld.Itcanbesaidthattheroadisdangerousanddifficult,andtheroadislong.MargaretMichelisanimportantfigureinthehistoryoffeminism.HernovelGonewiththeWind,publishedin1936,heldhighthebanneroffeminism.Scarlett’sgrowthexperienceandtransformationprocessisthemainlineofthenovel,whichreflectsthechangesofhistoryinthereconstructionperiodofGeorgiaaftertheAmericanCivilWar,integratingtheromanceofloveandrealisticrealism.TheauthorMargaretMichelanalyzesthefateoftheprotagonistandthecharactersbehinditfromtheperspectiveoffeminism,andportraysScarlett,afigurewithfeministcolor.Undertheerachange,Scarlettbrokethroughtheusualprejudiceandtheideologicalbarrieroftheidea“menaresuperiortowomen”,andfoughtagainstthepatriarchalsocietyforindependence.Itisastrongandbravesymboloftheera.ChapterTwoAnOverviewofGonewiththeWindandFeministTheory2.1IntroductiontoGonewiththeWindGonewiththeWindisanovelwrittenbyMargaretMitchell,whichwonthePulitzerPrizeforLiteraturein1937.ThenoveldescribeAtlantaandanearbyplantationasthestoryscene,depictingthelifeofsouthernAmericansbeforeandaftertheCivilWar.Theworkdepictstheimagesofmanysouthernersinthatera,Scarlett,Rhett,Ashley,Melanieandotherswhooccupythecentralpositionaretypicalrepresentatives.Theircustoms,spiritualconcepts,mannersandpoliticalattitudesthroughtheentanglementofScarlett’sloveasthemainline.IthadsuccessfullyreproducedthecivilwarandthesociallifeintheSouthoftheUnitedStates.ThestoryinthenoveltookplaceontheeveoftheAmericanCivilWarin1861.Scarlettwasayounggirllivinginthesouth.Shewasdeeplyaffectedbytheculturaltraditioninsouthernwhenshewasyoung.However,therewerewildrebelliousfactorsinherblood.Withthewarragingandthedeteriorationofthelivingenvironment,Scarlett’srebelliouspersonalitybecamemorefullanddistinct.Formthesemanysetbacks,shetransformed.Shechangedthefateofherselfandeventhewholefamily.Shebecametheimaginationofanewwomancreatedbythetimes.Depictingthelifeandloveofthecharacters,outlinessimilaritiesoftheworkanddifferencesoftheNorthandtheSouthatallthelevelsofpolitics,economyandculture.Withastrongepicstyle,itcanberepresentasatrueportrayaloftheturningperiodofAmericanhistory,andalsobecomeanenduringclassicoflove.2.2TheoreticalConnotationThetheoryoffeminismboilsdowntoonesentence:eliminategenderinequalitythroughouthumanity.Acomprehensiveviewoffeministtheoriesistaken,someareasfierceasfire,calmaswater,advocateresoluteresistance,recognizeconcessionsandcompromises.However,abasicpremiseisallfeministtheorieshave,thatis,womenareoppressedanddiscriminatedclassworldwide.Menarealsooppressedindifferenterasandcultures,buttheyareoppressedbecausetheyarebelongtothemembersofacertainclassorstratum,notthereasonoftheyaremale.Womenaredifferentfromit,becausewomenarewomen.Thesocietyforgedbymenregardswomen.Justasainferior:shecanonlychangeherinferiorstatusbychallengingandchangingthesuperiorstatusofmen.Inthehistory,therehavemanyrevolutionsthathavechallengedtherulingclique,butonlyfeminismhaschallengedpatriarchyitself.Womenintheworldareaclassofoppressedanddiscriminatedagainst,thatis,the“secondsex”referredtobythefeministthoughtguruBeauvoir.Inasocietyforgedbymen,womenareconsideredtobeinferior,andwomencanonlychangetheirinferiorstatusbychallengingandchangingthehigherstatusofmen.Thesecondsexualstatusofwomenissopervasiveandenduring.Whichinsuchacrosshistoricalandcrossculturalsocialstructure,womeninanunequalpositionwithmeninvariousfieldssuchaspolitics,economy,culture,ideology,cognition,concepts,ethics,andeveninprivatefieldssuchasthefamily,womenarealsoinanunequalpositionwithmen.Accordingtothepatriarchalideology,thisgenderorderofmalesuperiorityandfemaleinferiorityisnotonlyuniversal,butalsounchangeable,becauseitisnaturallyformed;Thisgenderorderisneitheruniversalnorunchangingfeminismbelieves.Becauseitisnot“naturallyformed”,butartificiallyconstructedbysocietyandculture.Inthepasttwohundredyears,Twoclimaxesofthefeministmovementtherehavebeenintheworld.Thefirstoccurringfromthesecondhalfofthe19thcenturytothebeginningofthe20thcentury.Thesecondoccurringinthe60-70softhe20thcentury.Afterthetwoclimaxesofthefeministmovement,womengraduallyfreedthemselvesfromtheirdependentstatusinapatriarchalsociety.Theyconstantlystriveforequalitybetweenmenandwomenintermsofgender,divisionoflabor,socialidentity,politicalri
