词汇精讲
1.standfor
standfor意为"代表,象征”。例如:
Xoftenstandsforanunknownnumber.X经常代表未矢口数。
Thedovestandsforpeace.鸽子象征和平。

(1)standagainst意为“反对例如:
Theyallstoodagainstthewar.他们都反对战争。

2.insteado^instead
(1)insteadof是介词短语,意为“代替,而不是",后面可以跟与前面并列成分相应的名词、
代词、动词-ing形式等作为介词宾语。例如:

Imadethiscakespeciallywithbrownsugarinsteadofwhite.

3.cut
(1)cut作名词,意为“切口;切;剪辑例如:

4.advise
advise是advice的动词形式,意为"劝告;建议”,常用于advisesb.todosth.的结构中。

(1)advice是不可数名词,意为“意见、建议、劝告、忠告”。例如:

5.fix
fix作动词,意为“使……固定;修理;确定”。例如:

fixup意为“修理,修补”,是动副型短语,与mend,repair同义。如果fixup的宾语是代

6.should
should是情态动词,意为“应当,应该"。表示义务、责任等,可用于各种人称,无人称和
数的变化,也不能单独作谓语,只能和主要动词一起构成谓语,表示说话人的语气和情态;
否定形式为shouldnot,缩写为shouldn't。其主要用法有:
(1)表示责任和义务,意为“应该”。例如:
Youshouldtakeyourteacher9sadvice.你应该听从你老师的建议。
Youshouldn'tbelateforclass.你不应该上课迟到。
(2)表示建议,意为“应该”。例如:
Youshouldhaveatry.你应该尝试一下。
YoushouldknowalittleaboutDIY.你应该对“自己动手做”有一些了解。
(3)表示推断,意为“可能,该”。例如:
Thetrainshouldhavealreadyleft.火车可能已经离开了。
Withoutaccidents,weshouldarriveontime.
没有意外情况的话,我们应该可按时到达。
7.add
add作动词,意为“加,增加”,常用以下结构:
(1)add...to...意为“把...力口至(J........”。例如:
Don'taddfueltotheflames.别再火上浇油了。
(2)addto表示“增加;增添”,其中to是介词,后接名词或代词。例如:
Eachgirlpresentatthepartywaswearingaflowerinthehair,whichaddedtotheirbeauty.
参加晚会的姑娘人人头上都戴有一朵花,使得她们显得愈加漂亮。
(3)addup意为“把……加起来”。例如:
Addupallthenumbersandyouwillseehowmuchyouoweme.
把所有的数字加起来看看你欠我多少。
(4)addupto意为"总计;加起来结果是"。例如:
Allthenumbersadduptoexactly900.所有数力口起来一共900.
8.finally
finally作副词,意为“最后”。多修饰动态动词,位置较灵活,可位于句中、句首或句尾,
位于句中时,要放在be动词、助动词和情态动词之后,行为动词之前。例如:
Theyfinallyfoundthelostchild.他们终于找到了丢失的孩子。
Heworkedoutthemathproblemfinally.他终于解出了那道数学题。

finally,atlast与intheend
(1)finally强调在列举论点时,引出最后一个内容,表示盼望已久的事情终于实现了的含
义。侧重最后的结果。例如:
Theytalkedaboutitforhours,finallytheydecidednottogo.
他们为此讨论了几个小时,最后决定不去了。
(2)atlast强调经过曲折后才达到目的。表示期待的感情更为强烈。侧重指先后顺序,并
且在句中的位置较为灵活。例如:
Whentheyfoundhimatlast,hewasalmostdead.当他们最终找到他时,他几乎死了。
(3)intheend在强调经过许多变化、困难之后才达到目的时,与atlast的用法一样,且位
置较为灵活。但在表示对将来的结局表示预测时,只能用intheend。例如:
Hetriedmanydifferentjobs,andintheendhebecameapostman.
他做过许多工作,最后当了一名邮递员。
Intheend,thingswillmend.

9.forexample
forexample意为“例如”,强调“举例”说明,而且一般只举同类人或物中的一个作为插
入语,且用逗号隔开。forexample可置于句首、句中或句末。例如:
Therearemanykindsofpollution,forexample,noiseisakindofpollution.
这里有许多种污染,例如噪音就是一种污染。
Manystudentslikeplayingcomputergames,forexample,Mike.
许多学生喜欢玩电脑游戏,比如迈克。

suchas也意为“例如”,用来列举同类人或物中的几个例子,一般不全部列出,可置于被
列举的事物与前面的名词之间,但suchas后边不能用逗号。例如:

10.gowrong
g。wrong意为“走错路,发生故障”。例如:

1.stopdoingsth.
stopdoingsth.意为“停止做某事”。例如:
HestoppedwatchingTVandbegantoreadEnglish.他不看电视了,开始读英语。
【拓展】
stop后还可以接动词不定式,即stoptodosth.意为“停下来原来做的事,做另一件事”。
例如:
HewatchedTVforanhour.At8hestoppedtodohishomework.
他看了一个小时的电视,八点钟他停下来(看电视)去做作业。
2.notonly...butalso...
(1)notonly…butalso…的意思是“不但..而且....”,连接两个并列成分,如果连接两个
主语的时候,谓语动词和also后面的主语保持一致。例如:
NotonlymymotherbutalsoIliketogotothegarden.
不仅妈妈而且我也喜欢去公园。
(2)以notonly…butalso…开头的句子往往引起倒装。例如:
Notonlydidhecomplainaboutthefood,butalsoherefusedtopayforit.
他不仅抱怨饭不好吃,而且拒绝付饭钱。
3.hadbetterdosth.
hadbetter(常简略为,dbetter)是一固定词组,hadbetter意为“最好”,用于表示对别人的劝告、
建议或表示一种愿望。其用法有以下几点:
(1)hadbetter后面必须跟动词原形,构成hadbetterdosth.句型。
注意:这里的had不能用have来替换。例如:
You'dbettergotohospitalatonce.你最好立即去医院看病。
Tom,youMbettergotheretoday.汤姆,你最好今天去那里。
(2)主语不论是第几人称,句子不论是什么时态,都要用hadbetter的形式。例如:

4.FmcertainthatIcanfixitmyself.
certain是形容词,意为“确定的;无疑的“,相当于sure,对应的副词为certainlyocertain
常用于以下结构中:
becertain/sureofsth.对某事有把握
becertain/suretodosth.肯定做某事
becertain/sure+that从句确信...
例如:
Theyarecertain/sureofsuccess.他们有把握成功。
I'mcertain/surethathewillcome.我确信他会来。

certain与sure
两词都含有“确信,肯定”之意,其区别如下:
(1)certain为形容词,不仅表示相信,而且表示有根据,主语既可以是人也可以是物。
例如:
Heiscertaintocome.他一定会来。
It9scertainthathewonthegamenow,现在可以肯定他赢得了这场比赛。
(2)sure既可以是形容词也可作副词,常表示人的主观愿望或信念,主语通常是人。例如:
Kidsnowadaysseemverysureofthemselves.现在的小孩显得非常自信。

5.Preparethefruitsalad...
(1)该句是一个祈使句,省略了句子的主语you,以动词原形开头,表示命令、邀请、请

(2)祈使句的否定句,一般在句子开头加don't即可。例如:
