Valentine, realizing the injustice of the decree , defied Claudius and continued to perform marriages for young lovers in secret. When

4、 Valentines actions werediscovered, Claudius ordered that he be put to death.Accordingto another legend, Valentine actually sent the firstvalentinegreeting himself. Whilein prison, it is believed that Valentine fell in love with a young girl- his jailors daughterwho visitedhim during his confinement

Although the truth behind the Valentine legends is murky, the stories certainly emphasize his appeal as a sympathetic, heroic, and, most importantly, romantic

6、figure.Valentines Day is not a public holiday. Government offices, stores, schools and other organizations are open as usual. Public transit systems run on their regular schedule. Restaurants may be busier than usual as many people go out for an evening with their spouse or partner. Valentines Day i
